Blow the whistle! Stoke the firebox! Go behind the scenes!      Experience the world famous Ohio Central #1293 firsthand! A great gift for any rail enthusiast!     The winner of this auction will accompany the crew of the world-famous Ohio Central steam locomotive #1293 throughout one day of their historic visit to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Spend the day as a crewmember of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railway (CSVR) – uniform included – riding in the steam engine’s locomotive cab within the National Park and adjacent to the historic Ohio and Erie canalway and the Cuyahoga River.         During your time in the cab you will be able to shovel coal into the firebox, blow the whistle, assist the engineer as he checks controls and valves, and help the brakeman look out for obstructions on the tracks.  At stops you can choose to accompany the conductor as he inspects the train for safety, checks tickets, and calls all passengers aboard. Throughout the day, a professional photographer will be available to take pictures and help you preserve memories of this unique adventure.   This once-in-a-lifetime rail experience can be tailored to your interests: step up, pitch in, and get your hands dirty, or just stand back and watch in amazement with the best seat in the house. Additional activities can be added according to your preference, including: a photo run-by of the train (with you at the window as the locomotive steams past), a behind-the-scenes tour of CSVR’s locomotive and repair shops, lunch on the crew-car, assisting the locomotive crew in taking on water and coal, and touring through Peninsula’s quaint shops and historical sites.  This truly is an amazing, exclusive experience that the general public will never have!           Dates: You can select from one of the following days:     Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008   Wednesday, September 24th, 2008     Thursday, September 25th, 2008   Saturday, September 27th, 2008      Sunday, September 28th, 2008     During your exclusive, hands-on, experience, your three guests will receive premium seating on an executive-class car on the train, enjoying the ride and beautiful scenery in elegance and comfort while you are up front helping the train run.         The winner of this auction will be contacted by CVSR after auction closing to make the necessary arrangements. Payment must be made by the winner to CVSR by credit card within 7 days of the auction’s conclusion. Travel to Peninsula, Ohio and any accommodation needs are the responsibility of the winning bidder.
