Description
This offer is for a stay at the cottage Sanibel Enchantment for up to 30 days in September, 2008. Otherwise, the next availability is April, 2009. September is a really nice month for Sanibel: the weather is usually perfect, not many tourists, no waiting at intersections or restaurants. Tropical storm Fay did not cause any appreciable damage to the island or the cottage. Sanibel Island is a paradise - no question about it, the most desirable destination in Southwest Florida: no stop lights, no neon signs, no billboards, no fast-food restaurants, no high-rise buildings (it's the law - no building can be higher than a palm tree). Half of the island is preserved in national wildlife refuges, home for hundreds of species of birds and animals, some of which are on the endangered lists. More than 25 miles of peaceful bike paths, all kinds of water sports, kayaking and canoeing in the unique mangrove-lined bayous, Florida's best back-water and deep-sea fishing, golf, tennis and, of course, the most famous "shelling" on miles of incomparable beaches...great restaurants, shopping, art galleries, live professional theater, concerts... Experience the original spirit of Sanibel. Not just another concrete bunker, Sanibel Enchantment is a uniquely-delightful, historically-significant cottage. Sanibel Enchantment is honored by the Sanibel Historical Society to be the only private cottage on their numbered list of sites of interest, designated with plaques at the corner of the street and the front porch, described and shown on the map in their brochure "Historic Walking and Bicycle Tour." It is one of the last original cottages on Sanibel, built in 1952 as a personal getaway by the Kinzie family, pioneers on Sanibel, who owned and operated the Sanibel Island Ferry Service from 1928 until the Causeway was finished in 1963. The cottage is located on an ideal site chosen by the Kinzie's in the unspoiled east-end Old Town of the island on Seagrape Lane (green arrow in the aerial photo) between two beaches as you can see on the map: a two-minute walk to the tranquil bayside beach, a five-minute walk to the wonderful, 10-mile long, snow-white beach on the gulfside - take your pick. Just steps to the beautiful pool surrounded by palm trees (blue arrow in the aerial photo). There is a huge tropical garden with rare and fragrant botanical treasures in addition to frangipanis, gardenias, jasmine, bougainvillea, hibiscus, giant strelizia, coconut and sabal palms, lime, orange and majestic banyan and mahogony trees, to name a few. The cottage has been completely and extensively renovated, except for the heart-of-pine hardwood floors - they are original and beautifully restored. Today, it is relaxation pure in the delightful old-style Florida ambience, meticulously maintained, light and airy, full of color and full of fun. You will immediately experience the enchanting atmosphere without the feeling that you are in a sterile hotel room or condo for transients. You would have a very hard time trying to find accommodations on Sanibel with anywhere near this much island flair and elegance. Each piece of furniture, each lamp, every accent, all of the highest quality, has been selected individually for its own place in the cottage. To add to your enjoyment, there is a gleaming stainless steel gourmet kitchen complete in every detail you can imagine. The spacious cottage has 1050 square feet (97.5 square meters) of indoor living area, can easily accommodate 4 adults but 2 adults and 1 to 2 children is better. Central air conditioning and humidity control, high-speed cable direct internet connection, telephone for local and 1-800 calls, safe, 2 flat-panel LCD cable TVs, VCR, DVD-RW, CD-MP3 stereo system, washer-dryer, iron, hair dryer, 4 comfortable 6-speed cruiser bikes, Weber gas BBQ grill, picnic deck and a long list of other amenities. More info and pictures at www.sanibelenchantment.net. The Old Town of Sanibel at the east end of the island is protected by strict zoning laws and rental restrictions to retain its old Florida heritage and charm through attenuation of transient, high-volume tourism. Accordingly, our historic, privately-owned Sanibel Enchantment cottage is required by city ordinance to limit the minimal rental period to 28 days. At no extra charge, however, if desired, the stay can be extended a day or two longer. For up to 30 days of tropical island leisure in September 2008, we are offering a special price of $2,099.00 (11% Florida hotel tax, utilities, cleaning, etc. included - no other or hidden charges). Wondering about the price? Even though our unique gem is in great demand, this is not a business venture and we keep the price very reasonable. If you would like to make a comparison, please do, shop around. Check out the prices for a one-bedroom cottage and see what you get, ambience and space, at nearby commercial Old Town complexes, typically with Wal-Mart decor and 400 to 500 square feet of living area. They have a website at which several of them offer their units (just do a Google search for Old Town Sanibel). For example, for the same dates in 2008, one of the "better" commercial complexes offers its largest one-bedroom cottage with 500 square feet of living area (according to their published price) for about $4650.00 plus 11% tax which comes extra. It is all the same neighborhood but it will be rapidly apparent that Sanibel Enchantment is not only less expensive, it also has fully twice as much living area as most other one-bedroom cottages, has an incomparably more delightful ambience and has a beautiful, spacious pool in contrast to the others, most of which have either no pool or only a bathtub-sized pool. Moreover, in most of the commercial units you will be sharing a narrow strip of garden, cottage next to cottage. At Sanibel Enchantment with no immediate neighbors, you have a grill and picnic deck in a garden actually larger than the entire property of some of the commercial complexes with 4 or 5 cottages.
